Theresa Ann Haman
Ed.D. 1948 - 2007
Theresa Ann Haman Ed.D.
Theresa
Ann Haman, 58, Minot, died unexpectedly Tuesday, February
27, 2007 in a Bismarck hospital.
Theresa was born October 24, 1948 in Rugby, ND to John M.
and Doris A.
(Vatsvog) Haman. She attended grade and high school in Towner,
graduating Salutatorian of her senior class.
She went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education
from Minot State College. While teaching grade school at Goodrich
and Ray, ND, Theresa could see a lapse in services for children
with "Special Abilities". She pioneered Learning Disabilities
programs in North Dakota, earning her masters degree in Learning
Disabilities from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.
She continued in Special Education, obtaining her doctorate degree
in Teacher Education from the University of North Dakota. She
was the Learning Disabilities Coordinator in Devils Lake and
many surrounding schools, then worked at Minot State University
as coordinator of Special Services.
Theresa's passions in life included involvement with her nieces
and nephews and
collecting various clowns. She had a beautiful singing voice,
singing in choirs throughout her school years--especially enjoying
gospel music. Theresa loved to cook, and in fact, she took sabbaticals
from work to be a chef at many restaurants. In 1988, Theresa
took a leave of absence from her job to become full-time caregiver
for her parents in their declining years. She took an early retirement
because of health issues. In 2000, Theresa underwent a kidney
transplant. The kidney was given to her by a special niece and
Godchild, Michele Bitz.
Theresa was instrumental in guiding nieces and nephews in
their educational and
spiritual journeys. She took a genuine interest in others' lives,
impacting them greatly. Her Godchildren had a special place in
her heart.
Her biggest joys in life were preparing feasts for family
and other family-oriented
gatherings. Her warm smile and giving nature will be missed by
all.
She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot,
ND.
