Irene K. Halvorson 1940 - 2003

Irene K. Halvorson, 62, 1905 Meadowlark Drive, Minot, ND, died Saturday, January 18, 2003, in a Bismarck Medical Center.

Irene was born December 25, 1940, to Pete and Elizabeth Mattern, in Rugby, North Dakota. She was reared and educated in Rugby and graduated from Rugby High School in 1958. Following graduation she moved to Valley City, where she was employed at a Valley City Bank. In 1964 she moved to Minot and worked at Union National Bank until her marriage.

On April 21, 1963, she married Orris Halvorson in Rugby. While their children were small, Irene was able to spend her time at home raising four girls. While in Rugby Orris and Irene became partners in Pleasant Lake Grain.

In 1978 they moved to Minot. In 1989 Orris and Irene became owners of Pleasant Lake Grain and the name was changed to Halvorson Grain and Feed. Irene was the bookkeeper for her husband's grain business from 1989 until 2001.

In 1989, Irene purchased the Diet Centre in Minot, which she operated for eight years, retiring for health reasons in 1997.

Irene has battled a blood disorder since 1985 and the last year has proved to be the most difficult. She was proud of her family, especially Orris and their four girls. She also had unconditional love for her grandchildren and took an active part in their lives, getting them to piano lessons and being there for their activities.

She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church.
