Henry A. Halstengard 1941 - 2008

Henry A. Halstengard, 66, Velva, died Monday, January 21, 2008 in a Minot hospital.

Henry was born May 3, 1941 in Bergen, ND, the son of Ole and Edith (Monson) Halstengard. He was raised and educated in Bergen and graduated from Bergen High School in 1959.

On February 8, 1960 he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Korea until February 7, 1963, when he was honorably discharged and returned to North Dakota.

He worked for Cenex in Minot and later Williston until they closed. He moved to Minot and was employed at Sears until ill health forced him to retire. Following retirement he moved to Velva and cared for his mother until she passed away in 1999. He continued to make his home in Velva.

He was a member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church in Velva. He was very active with the Velva Senior Citizens Center, where he served as treasurer and truly enjoyed volunteering his time there. Henry was an avid reader and subscribed to many book clubs. He loved bird watching and being outdoors.

Those who shared in his life, Brother, Ole (Donna) Halstengard, Glendale, AZ; sister-in-law, Jodi Klimpel, Minot; nieces and nephews, Guy, Dean, Terry, Joan, Rene, Jurlene, Sue Ann and Vonnie; several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins survive.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Edith and brother, Martin Halstengard.

Funeral: Monday, January 28, 2008 at 1:00 p.m., at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, ND.

Visitation: Monday, from 11:00 a.m. to service time in the church.

Burial: Bergen Cemetery in the spring.
