Benjamin George "Ben"
Haider 1933 - 2005 Benjamin George "Ben" Haider, 72, Berthold, died Wednesday, December 14, 2005 at his home from cancer. Benjamin was born to Michael and Margueritte (Buee) Haider on June 4, 1933 in Minot. He was raised and educated in Burlington. He enlisted in the military on July 1, 1952 first serving with the Army Air Guard and later with the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He received many honors during his 22 years of service in the military, retiring on May 1, 1973. After retiring from the military Ben went to work for the City of Berthold for 15 years. Since 1986 he worked for the National Weather Service where he received recognition for his years of service. He was a member of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Ben enjoyed doing wood work, hunting, fishing, playing bingo and traveling to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ben was a kind loving man who would be there to lend a helping hand to anybody. He was once married to Helen Reynolds and to that union three sons where born, Jody, Dennis and David. The marriage ended in divorce. On November 25, 1968 Benjamin married Shirley (Taylor) Trondson, who had five children and the two families became one with Sheila, Rhoda, Douglas, Sonja, Jody, Dennis, Tina, Lisa and David. Survivors: Wife of 37 years, Shirley, Berthold; sons, Douglas (Pam) Trondson, Colorado Springs, CO, Jody, Dennis and David Haider, all of Spokane, WA; daughters, Sheila (Joe) Lynn, Rio Linda, CA, Rhoda McLain, Berthold, ND, Sonja (Bob) Bramble, Payson, AZ, and Lisa Trondson, Puyallup, WA; 27 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Eleanor) Haider, Fargo, ND, Herbert (Danni) Haider, Corsegold, CA, Robert (Esther) Haider, Burlington, ND, Raymond Haider, Grifton, NC, Leo (Kathy) Haider, Melvin (Della) Haider, Michael (Connie) Haider, all of Burlington, and Daniel (Shirley) Haider, Troutdale, OR; sisters, Margueritte Nass, Burlington, Darlene Nelson, DeWitt, IA and Linda (Joe) Davenport, Sebring, FL; sisters-in-law, Connie Johnson and Linda (Daniel) Depute, all of Berthold; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Benjamin was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Margueritte Haider; daughter, Tina Trondson; brothers, Arthur and Ervin Haider. Memorial Service: Friday, December 30, 2005, at 10:30 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Berthold, ND Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register book Friday one hour prior to the service in the church.
