Thelma C. Haaland 1917 - 2004

Thelma C. Haaland, 87, 1900 28th St. SW, #126, Minot, formerly of Carpio, ND, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, in a Minot hospital.

She was born on January 26, 1917, in Berthold, ND, to Thor and Carolyn Moe. Before the age of two, her parents died from influenza. Relatives of her parents raised her and her two brothers Lawrence and Edward. Her Aunt Anna Holmen and her two sons, Theodore and Marvin, helped raise Thelma. She attended country school for a time and finished her education in Berthold.

Thelma met Arne Haaland and they were married on March 15, 1941. They rented and later purchased a farm in Carpio Township, south of Carpio, ND, where they lived, farmed and raised their family for over 61 years. They worked hard during tough times and shared common goals in the raising of their family. They semi-retired but remained living on the farm, which is now operated by their sons. Arne died on November 17, 1995. Thelma continued to live on the farm until 2002, when she moved to Minot due to ill health. She was living in Minot at the time of her death.

Thelma and Arne were founding members of Carpio Lutheran Church, and were very involved in all activities in the church. They were proud of their family and attended many events of their children and grandchildren. Thelma was an excellent cook and enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles in her spare time.
