Joyce Gunderson • 1927 - 2008

Joyce Gunderson, 81, Portal, ND, died Saturday, November 1, 2008 in a Kenmare hospital.

Joyce Edith Gustafson was born on July 6, 1927, a daughter of Ernest and Grace (Alden) Gustafson in Portal, ND. She was raised and educated in the Portal area.

Joyce was united in marriage to Harold L. Gunderson on October 13, 1945 in Plentywood, MT. They made their home in Portal, ND. Where she worked at the café. Joyce also worked at the V+V Roundup, hauled mail for the United States Post Office to and from the Soo Line Depot, worked as a manager at the Gateway City Golf Course, sold Avon and worked at various other places throughout the community, last, working in housekeeping at the Americana Motel. Harold died April 30, 2007. Joyce continued to live in Portal.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and the American Legion Auxiliary, both of Portal. Joyce enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving relatives include: Sons: Steven (Bev) Gunderson, Dunseith, ND and David Gunderson; daughters Diane Gunderson and Linda (Ken) Evenson, all of Portal, ND and Barbara (Larry) Geiszler, Lexington, MN; grandchildren: Michael (Sue) Gunderson, Powers Lake, ND, Marcie (Brent)Heinrich, Velva, ND, Sherry (Casey)Lalum, Lignite, ND, Christopher (fiancé Amanda) Evenson, Minot, Aaron (Sarah) Gunderson, Fargo, ND, Tyler Gunderson, Dunseith and Easter Geiszler, Lexington, MN; great-grandchildren: Caitlin, Kylie, Chloe, and Klaire Gunderson, Reese, Morgan and Logan Heinrich, Cannen Lalum, Elijah, Erika, Noah and Marta Gunderson, and Nathaniel Evenson; sister Lois Windrim, Moosemin, SK, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold, and brothers Raymond, Reggie, Ernest, Kenneth Gustafson, sisters Shirley Wheeler and Delores Swenson, niece Judy Turner, brother-in-law Raymond Swenson and sister-in-law Jean Gustafson.

Visitation: Tuesday, November 4, 2008 from 4 to 7pm at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare, ND

Funeral Service: Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Portal, ND

Burial: Portal Cemetery, Portal, ND
