Harold L. Gunderson 1917 - 2007 Harold Lawrence Gunderson was born June 20, 1917, the son of Martin and Carrie (Olson) Gunderson on the family farm located in Leaf Mountain Township of Burke County, near Columbus, ND. He attended school in Leaf Mountain Township. As a young adult, he assisted his parents with the operation of the family farm. Following his father's death, he continued to operate the family farm until 1944. Harold was married to Joyce Edith Gustafson October 13, 1945, in Plentywood, MT. They made their home in Portal, ND. He had been a mechanic since the age of 16. He started working as a mechanic for George Fordyce. He also worked for the Soo Line Railroad for a short time. He assisted Jim Abraham and Bob Balentine on their farms for a short time. He then worked for the George Miller Repair Shop and later the Am Durrick Repair Shop in Columbus. From 1957-1961, he started his own Texaco Gas Station in Portal. In 1979, he ran the Standard Oil gas station in Lignite, ND. In 1980, he owned and operated Harold's Repair in Portal until retiring in 2005. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Portal. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing his guitar. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with is grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving family includes: wife of 61 years, Joyce, Portal, ND; sons, Steven (Bev) Gunderson, Dunseith, ND, and David Gunderson, Portal, ND; daughters, Diane Gunderson, Portal, ND, and Linda (Ken) Evenson, Portal, ND, and Barbara (Larry) Geiszler, Lexington, MN; grandchildren, Michael (Sue) Gunderson, Powers Lake, ND, Marcie (Brent) Heinrich, Velva, Sherry (Casey) Lalum, Lignite, Christopher Evenson, Minot, Aaron (Sarah) Gunderson, Fargo, Tyler Gunderson, Dunseith, and Easter Geiszler, Lexington, MN; great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Kylie, Chloe and Klaire Gunderson; Reese and Morgan Heinrich; Cannen Lalum; Elijah, Erika, and Noah Gunderson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Gena Christensen; and brothers, Louie and Melvin Gunderson. Funeral: Thursday, May 3, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Portal. Interment: Portal Cemetery, Portal, ND. Visitation: Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson
