Carolyn L. Gullickson 1935 - 2003 Carolyn L. Gullickson, 67, Ruso, passed away quietly and peacefully in her home on Monday. She was born on October 1, 1935, in Minot, a daughter of Henry and Lydia (Walz) Krueger of Max. She was raised on the family farm northeast of Max and was the fifth child of the family. Carolyn attended country school 2 ¼ miles west of their farm and graduated from Max High School in 1952. While attending High School, she stayed in Max during the week and during her senior year, she worked after school and on Saturdays at Walt's Grocery Store, earning 50 cents an hour. Following graduation she worked for one summer in Minot. On October 26, 1952, she married Kermit "Bobby" Gullickson at Peace Lutheran Church in Max. After their marriage they lived in Minot where Kermit worked construction. In 1959 they moved to a farm east of Benedict where they lived until 1971 when they purchased a farm a ½ mile further south. They established a farming and dairy cow operation, which their son Richard has since taken over. In April of 1993, Carolyn was diagnosed with a rare liver disease. She received a liver transplant at the Mayo Clinic at Rochester, MN on November 8, 1993 and came out of it well. She was forever grateful to the donor and also to the church, for holding a benefit for her. She made three trips to Germany to visit their oldest son Larry and his family. While there, she also located three cousins on her dad's side of the family. Carolyn was a devoted Christian and a member of Concordia Lutheran Church at Benedict. She was a willing, busy worker at the church and stayed active in the ELCA women's group, played piano, helped with the quilt and lefse making and took part in the ethnic food dinner. She also served as treasurer of the church for several years. She was also active in the community, serving as the Township Assessor for many years. She enjoyed playing pinochle and always raised a big garden and did a lot of canning. She was a good cook and was known for her wonderful donuts. She was a very generous and caring person, who would do anything for anyone and she enjoyed and loved her family and everyone around her. She will be truly missed.
