Maurice Casper Grondahl 1923 - 2002

Maurice Casper Grondahl, 78, 3100 11th Ave. SE C5, Minot, and longtime Granville area resident, died Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

Maurice was born November 23, 1923, in Wolf Point, Montana, the son of Casper and Dora (Brinkman) Grondahl. He moved with his parents to Deering, ND, then to Granville, ND, where he graduated from high school in 1943.

In 1944 he entered the United States Army and served overseas in the Philippines and Okinawa, during World War II. He was wounded during his overseas service and received the Purple Heart. In 1946 he was honorably discharged and returned to the Granville area to farm and ranch with his dad. On July 3, 1953 he married Lorraine Johnson at Willow City, ND. In 1963 they took over the farming and ranching operation near Granville and remained on the farm until 1994, when they moved to Minot. Maurice entered the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva on August 2, 2002, where he since had lived.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Granville, and served on the church council. He also served as supervisor on the township board for many years. While living in Minot he attended Bethany Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors: Wife, Lorraine, Minot; sons, Jerome (Marlys) Grondahl, Granville, and Darin Grondahl, Minot; daughters, Janelle (Mark) Kuhnhenn, Towner, and Karen (Ralph) Kuhnhenn, Minot; five grandchildren, John Nostdahl, Shawn and Ashley Kuhnhenn, and Derek and Allison Kuhnhenn; two step grandchildren, Jolene Ratts and Wesley Nostdahl; one great-granddaughter, Kyla Nostdahl; brother, Donald (Calley) Grondahl, Lake Park, MN; sister, Dorothy Erickson, Minot; sister-in-law, Mary Grondahl, Providence, KY; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Kerry Grondahl, his parents, Casper and Dora Grondahl, four brothers, Chester, Kenneth, James and Arvin Grondahl, and two sisters, Eunice Hall and Fern Burns.

Funeral: Saturday, August 31, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign the register book, Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Saturday there will be no reviewal at the church, but friends may sign the register one hour prior to the service.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
