Ida Lorraine Grilley 1920 - 2004 Ida Lorraine Grilley, 83, Deering, ND, died Sunday, January 11, 2004, in a Velva, ND, nursing home. She was born in Saline Township, McHenry County, rural Deering, on May 3, 1920, to Merle and Matilda (Simmons) Smith. She attended school in Deering and graduated from Deering High School in 1938. She married Hollis Grilley on February 5, 1941, in Minot. Following their marriage, they farmed and raised their family in rural Deering. They retired from farming in 1981, and continued to live on the farm until the past few weeks, when she stayed at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva. Her husband, Hollis, died on September 16, 2003. She was member of Deering Lutheran Church and a former member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, rural Deering. She served as secretary of the Deering Church Ladies for many years. She also served on the St. Olaf Cemetery Association, the Army Mothers, the Deering Reunion Committee, and was a former member of the Moose Lodge. Her hobbies included flower and vegetable gardening, baking, canning, ceramics, cake decorating and singing with the Deering community quartet. Memorials are preferred to the St. Olaf Cemetery Association or the Deering Lutheran Church. Survivors: two daughters, Linda (Myron) Smette, Granville, ND, and Diane Grilley, Deering; two sons, Paul Grilley, Deering, and Kenneth (Donna) Grilley, Surrey, ND; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; Jeffrey (Miriam) Smette and their children, Ashley and Mitchell, Jason (Nancy) Smette and their children, Thomas and Travis, and John Smette, all of Granville, Jeannette (Larry) Smith and their son, Garrett, Minot Air Force Base, Jacob Grilley, Deering, Jeanna Grilley, Gail (Monte) Lundy and their son, Tyler, all of Minot, and Jesse Grilley, Surrey; three step-grandchildren, Jason, Joshua and Jeremy House; eight brothers and sisters, Erma Kitzman, Raymond (Ramona) Smith, Curtis (Marva Deane) Smith, and Rodney (Mary Ann) Smith, all of Minot, Duane (Geraldine) Smith, Burlington, ND, Omar (Betty) Smith, Granville, Justine Pfeiffer, McMinnville, OR, and Vera (Adolph, Jr.) Peterson, Bismarck, ND; two sisters-in-law, Miriam Smith, New Port Richey, FL and Irma McDonald, Minot. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Her husband, parents, one grandson, and brother, Melvin, preceded her in death. Funeral Service: Thursday, January 15, 2004, 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot, ND. Visitation: Wednesday, January 14, 2004, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, and Thursday prior to the church. Burial: St. Olaf Cemetery, rural Deering, ND, in the
