James K. Griffin, 78, Indianapolis, IN, formerly of Minot, died Sunday, February 18, 2007, in an Indianapolis hospital.

James was born June 13, 1928 in Minot, ND to James and Mabel (Vanett) Eller Griffin. He was raised in Minot and attended Minot High School.

In 1947 he entered the Army Air Corps and served during World War II. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan as a radio operator. He was honorably discharged in 1949 and returned to North Dakota. He was once married to Donna Rae and to that union five children were born.

Jim worked as an electrician during the construction of the Minot Air Force Base, and on the missile sites in North Dakota. He also worked on the Garrison Dam and various other electrical jobs.
In 1957 he married JoAnn Poitra at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. He began employment at Holmes Electric in Minot as an electrical estimator and project manager. He worked there until 1978 when the couple moved to Indianapolis, IN. While in Indianapolis he worked at various electrical firms.

Jim loved to play golf and be on the computer. He was an animal lover and enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels. He was a member of Local #714 for 58 years and was one of the youngest ever to get a union card in North Dakota.

Survivors: Wife, JoAnn, Indianapolis, IN; children, Connie Monaco, Bath, NY, Peggy Griffin, Minneapolis, MN, Julie Griffin and Vickie Lykken, both of Madison, WI, Billy Griffin, Minneapolis, MN, Jamie Hendricks and Debbie Silvey, both of Indianapolis, IN; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Griffin, Grand Forks, ND; sister-in-law, Lottie Griffin, Minot; step-sister, Joan Carlson, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mabel Griffin, and a brother, Glen Griffin.

Funeral: Saturday, February 24, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Visitation: Saturday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND
