Ernie Gravseth 1925 - 2007

Ernie Gravseth, 81, Minot, died Thursday, December 13, 2007, in a Minot nursing home.

Ernest Newell Gravseth was born December 16, 1925, on the family farm located in Bottineau County, near Souris, ND, the son of Iver and Berdina (Walland) Gravseth. He was raised in the Souris area and educated at the Scandia Township School.

Ernie enlisted in the United States Army June 21, 1945. He proudly served his country during WWII and was honorable discharged February 16, 1946.

Ernie was married to Margie Lucht June 3, 1951, in Russell, ND. They lived in the Bottineau area until 1954, when they moved to Minot. Ernie had his own trucking company, and then bred cattle for Minnesota Valley Breeders for a number of years before working civil service at the Minot Air Force Base. He then drove truck for Cenex for a number of years before retiring.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot, and was very active with the church functions such as helping to make the potato klub. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge where he was a Legionnaire, and the Golden K.

Margie was Ernie's soul mate for over 55 years. She passed away February 19, 2007. Following his wife's passing, he resided at Trinity Homes in Minot. They will again be together for Christmas, the holiday he loved most, and for his birthday, which will be celebrated on Sunday, December 16, 2007.

Ernie was a strong man and a fighter who had went through many health crises. He enjoyed camping, gardening, yard work, fixing things, putting puzzles together, volunteering at the Hostfest, eating at Homesteaders Restaurant, and the Christmas holiday. He was a great husband, dad, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He was so loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Ernie is survived by his sons, Ernest "LeRoy" (Conchita) Gravseth, Poplar Bluff, MO, and Dan (Jeanette) Gravseth, Bismarck, ND; daughter, Cyndy "Sis" (Kelby) Smith, Minot; eight grandchildren, Ernest "Monty" (Emilia) Gravseth, Adam (Raquel) Gravseth, David (Tara) Gravseth, Anthony (Billi Jo) Gravseth, Amber Gravseth, Shaun Gravseth, Chelsey Gravseth, and Kyson Smith; three great-grandchildren, Andrea Gravseth, Carter Gravseth, and Carmen Gravseth; sisters, Adeline Erickson, Minot, ND, Myrtle Kjonaas, Minot, ND; brother, Rueben (Martha) Gravseth, Landa, ND; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margie; infant brothers, Harold, brother, Harold Gravseth; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and numerous friends and loved ones.

Funeral: Monday, December 17, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Visitation: Sunday from Noon to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Prayer Service: Sunday at 7 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
