Robert "Bob" Lester Grasmoen 1942 - 2003

Robert "Bob" Lester Grasmoen, 60, 1122 Valley View Drive, Minot, died Friday in a Minot hospital.

He was born September 28, 1942, in Minot, ND, to Wilfred and Mabel (Anderson) Grasmoen. He was reared and educated in Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1960. In 1961 he entered the United States Army National Guard and served at Fort Ord, CA, Fort Benning, GA, Camp Carson, CO and Fort Riley, KS, during the Berlin and Cuban Crisis. Following his discharge he worked in construction for a time. He later worked for a financial institution in Minneapolis and Rochester, MN.

On April 20, 1968, he married Beatrice Vetter at Selz, ND. In 1969 they moved to Minot where he was employed at Dakco Distributing. From 1971 until 1987 he owned and operated Dakota Securotron, Inc. In 1988 he became a shareholder and manager of Midwest Dental Lab. He retired in December of 2001 due to ill health.

He interests and hobbies included woodworking, metalworking, gun collecting, model railroading and traveling. He had a major interest in boating and the promotion of Lake Sakakawea. Bob was one of the original founders and the first Commodore of the Dam Yacht Club, which was formed in 1974. In 1987 he was instrumental in forming the Dock Owners Association, Inc., a group that purchased the Fort Stevenson Marina, and served as president of that organization until 1999.

He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). He was also a member of the Dam Yacht Club and the Dock Owners Association and a former member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge and the Eagles Club, all of Minot.

Survivors: wife, Beatrice Grasmoen, Minot; mother, Mabel Romine, Minot; sister, Janice M. Putz, Minot; nephew, Todd Putz, Spokane, WA; niece, Julie Waldref, Minot and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilfred Grasmoen.

Funeral: Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Monday, 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
