Wilma Jean Grandall 1945 - 2003

Wilma Jean Grandall, 57, Lignite, died Saturday at her home.

She was born July 20, 1945 in Kenmare, ND to Ernest and Adelheid "Heidi" (Wolkenhauer) Eaton. She was reared in the Lignite area, except for a brief time living in Kallispell, Montana. Her education began in a Foothills country school, then moved into Lignite where she graduated from Lignite High School in 1963. She then attended Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education with a major in Social Science and a minor in music. She also had a credential in reading.

On August 4, 1967, she married Theodore "Ted" Grandall at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Flaxton. They lived in Kenmare where they both taught school. In 1975, they moved to Lignite where they farmed and she taught at the Flaxton school. In 1989 they moved to Killeen, Texas and taught school for one year before returning to North Dakota. They lived in White Shield and taught at both White Shield, Roseglen school. In 1995 they returned to Lignite and were employed by the Burke County School System. Wilma was employed as a teachers aide at the time of her death.

She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Lignite and church organist. She was also a member of the Monson-Finkenhagen American Legion Auxiliary, Lignite. She was active in the Northwest Chorus in the Crosby/Estevan areas for a time and also gave piano lessons throughout the years. Teaching and music were a very important part of Wilma's life. She was a member of the NDEA and the NEA. Her hobbies included reading, working crossword puzzles and working on the computer.

Survivors: husband of 35 years, Ted Grandall, Lignite; mother, Heidi Eaton, Lignite; sister Naomi (Dale) Nelson, Lignite; brothers-in-law, Mike Grandall, Grand Forks, and Elliott (Karen) Grandall, Spring Valley, MN; nieces and nephews, Brenda (Chris) Christianson, Amie (Ray) Kraft, Dan (Amy) Nelson, Leslie Nelson, David Grandall and Soren Grandall; several/many godchildren and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Eaton.

Funeral: Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Lignite.

Visitation: Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Lignite.

Prayer Service: Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Lignite.

Burial: First Lutheran Cemetery, Lignite.
