Charles "Chuck" J. Gossett 1942 - 2002

Charles "Chuck" J. Gossett, 60, Manistee, Michigan, went to his just reward after a long courageous battle with diabetes and renal failure on Tuesday, December 3, 2002, in Manistee, Michigan.

He was born January 17, 1942, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of the late Pete and Sophia (May) Gossett. He was a graduate of Resurrection High School in Lansing, MI and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Chuck married Mary Almquist on December 17, 1965, in Upham, ND.

He was a former Deputy Sheriffs Officer in Manistee County and had served as the chairmen of the Democratic Party and was very interested and concerned for the preservation of nature and poilitics in Manistee County. He also was the Captain fo his own Charter Boat Service for several years. Chuck loved hunting, fishing and spending quality time with his family as well as sports of all kinds. He was a former coach of the Manistee Catholic Central Girls Softball team, the American Legion Baseball Team and was also a little league coach for many years and served as a Boy Scout leader while his sons were growing up. He enjoyed outdoor photography and working on graphic arts with his computer. He was a former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Manistee.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Mary, Manistee; two sons, John Gossett, Grand Rapids and Derek Gossett, Hazel Park; two grand daughters, Karina and Abigail Gossett both Grand Rapids; brother-in-law, Steven Salisbury, Wayland, MI. He was preceded in death by his son Christopher Gossett, his parents and a sister Carolyn Salisbury.

Memorial service: Friday, December 13, 2002, 2 p.m. at Somerset Court, Minot. Friends may sign a register book one hour prior to the service at Somerset.
