Charley "Duane"
Goodvin 1945 - 2004 Charley "Duane" Goodvin, 58, 112 H. St. #2, Minot Air Force Base, ND, died Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Trinity hospital, Minot. Duane was born on September 30, 1945, the son of Bryan and Nellie (Murray) Goodvin in Wichita, Kansas. His mother died when he was four years old and his father when he was 19 years old. He was raised and educated in Wichita and graduated from East High School in 1963. He graduated from Wichita State University in 1970, with a degree in Sociology and Anthropology. In 1974 he gradated from York University-Lakeshore Teachers' College in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Duane taught and traveled Canada for 10 years. He then moved to California, where he taught school, learned to ski and was a dance instructor. He returned to Wichita, KS, in 1996, to be closer to his family and was employed as a teacher at a local school. In August of 1996, he met his future square and round dance partner, Joyce Davis. Duane and Joyce were married on August 30, 1997, at the McConnell Air Force Base Chapel, Wichita, KS. They made their home in Denver, CO, where they lived for a year and then moved to Ramstein Air Base, Germany, for four years. In July 2002, they moved to Minot Air Force Base, where she is a Senior Master Sergeant and he was employed as a civilian in the Civilian Payroll Office. Duane enjoyed reading, bike racing, running, 50-60's music, downhill and cross country skiing, traveling, hiking, and canoeing. He also enjoyed flying his radio controlled airplanes and taking care of their cats, Jan Jan, Midnight, and Snowball; but most of all, loved cueing and square dancing with Joyce. He was a member of the Sierra Club, the American Society of Military Comptroller, the Air Force Sergeant's Association, the Minot Aircraft Modelers Club, the Academy of Model Aeronautics, the ND Callers and Cuers Association and Roundalab. Surviving family includes: He was preceded in death by his parents; and father-in-law, Wilbur Rehfeld. Funeral Service: Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at 3:00 p.m.
