Ferdinand "Fred" Goldade 1921 - 2005

Ferdinand "Fred" Goldade, 83, Minot, died Saturday, January 22, 2005, in a Minot nursing home.

Ferdinand was born May 22, 1921, in Wells County, ND, the son of Anton and Alice (Bertsch) Goldade. He grew up in rural Harvey and attended Wells County country school until the 7th grade.

On October 21, 1942, he entered the United States Army and served during World War II, in Rhineland and Central Europe with the 12th Armored Division, 66th Infantry Battalion. He was honorably discharged February 7, 1946 and returned to Wells County where he began farming.

On October 7, 1946 he married Annie Heilman in Selz, ND. In 1956 they bought a farm near Karlsruhe, where they farmed and ranched until retiring in 1990, when they moved to Minot.

Fred was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot. He was also a member of the Karlsruhe Veterans of Foreign Wars and the McHenry County Soil Conservation. He enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren and playing cards with his friends and he also enjoyed gardening.

Those who shared in his life, Wife, Annie, Minot; sons, Dennis (Eileen) Goldade, Minot, Arnold Goldade, Des Lacs; daughters, Ruth (Steven) Geyer, Minot, and Karen (Philip) Helmers, Burlington; son-in-law, George Lemer, Drake, ND; 12 grandchildren, Robert Lemer, Tamera (Scott) Filler, Kristie Lemer, DeAnn Lemer, Steven Lemer, Melinda (Larry) Kroeplin, Andrew Lemer, Bill Helmers, Brad Geyer, Cory (Katie) Geyer, Lori (Craig) Wass, and Darin Janzen; six great-grandchildren, Cody Wass, Jessica Wass, Alexa Zunich, Brandon Filler, Ryan Lemer and Katherine Filler; brothers, Joseph (Esther) Goldade and Leo (Isabelle) Goldade, all of Harvey; sisters, Lena Eckman and Helen Goldade, both of Harvey, Jean Hoffert and Regina McNally, both of Fargo, Irene Marquart, Harvey and Angeline (Marvin) Oster, Carrington; sister-in-law, Rose Goldade, Tioga, ND; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Alice Goldade; daughter, Elaine Lemer; brothers, Conrad, Sebastian, Frank and Leonard Goldade; sister, Mary Goldade.

Funeral: Tuesday, January 25, 2005, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation Monday, January 24, 2005, from noon to 7:00 p.m., with the vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND
