Leonard Joseph Goettle 1911 - 2006

Leonard Joseph Goettle, 94, Donnybrook, died Thursday morning February 16, 2006 at the Kenmare Community Hospital.

He was born September 27, 1911 to George and Mary (Landwehr) Goettle on the homestead near Blaisdell, ND in Stave Township. On June 3, 1941 Leonard married Annie Limacker of Rock Glen, Sask, Canada. They lived on the family farm/ranch all of their married years. Family was a special blessing for him and his wife Annie, during their 53 years of marriage. Together with God they created a family of five sons and four daughters: Jack (Marlene), Elko, NV; Leon (Edith); Jim (Doris); Joyce (Leonard Voigt-deceased); Lawrence (Nancy) all of Donnybrook, ND; Margaret, Minot, ND; Dan (LeAnn) White Earth, ND; Laureen (Robert) Klein, Burlington, ND and Monica (Ron) Dessonville, Dawson, MN.

He took great pride in his neighbors and community. He served on many boards and organizations: a 4-H leader, Township Board, Stave Township School Board, Donnybrook School Board, ASCS Board, a member of the Mouse River Cattlemen's Association, 50 years in the Saddle, Farmers Union member, Knights of Columbus, member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Blaisdell, and later a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Donnybrook. Honored for his conservation practices, Leonard was a true steward of the land. He had a great love for raising animals - continuing to care for them until his health failed in the last year.

Leonard took great pride in his family. He is survived by his nine children, 27 grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, eight great step grandchildren, and three great great step grandchildren. Brother, John, Klamath Falls, OR; sisters, Lucille Whillock, Denver, CO, and Frances Eldevick, Minot.

Leonard was preceded in death by his wife, Annie; parents, George and Mary Goettle; stepmother, Anna Goettle; brothers, Peter and Herb Goettle.

Funeral: Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare.

Visitation and Vigil Prayer Service: Visitation will be Friday, February 24, 2006, from noon to 5:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare, then from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare with the vigil Friday at 7:00 in the church.

Burial: Burial will be immediately following the funeral mass at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Donnybrook with a dinner at St. Anthony's Parish Hall in Donnybrook.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers green plants, saplings or evergreens that will continue to grow in his memory.
