Casper Goebel 1927 - 2003

Casper Goebel, 1310 6th Ave. NE, Minot, died Monday, October 13, 2003 in a hospital in Rapid City, SD.

He was born on November 28, 1927, in Minot, ND, to Lawrence and Regina (Linnertz) Goebel. He attended St. Leo's High School in Minot. He entered the United States Navy on December 28, 1945 and served as seaman on several Navy vessels, including the USS Blue Ridge, USS Renville and USS Frontier. He was honorably discharged on October 25, 1947. He re-enlisted in the United States Army on February 7, 1951, and served as Sergeant for Company C of the 67th Medium Tank Battalion, and was honorably discharged on January 20, 1954. He returned to North Dakota and married Lois Benton on June 16, 1956, in Minot. He worked for the North Dakota Highway Department in the survey and engineering department for many years until he retired as an inspector for the department in 1989.

He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, all of Minot.

Survivors: Wife, Lois, Minot; daughter, Mary Goebel, Rapid City, SD; one brother, Dan (Caroline) Goebel, Henderson, NV; and three sisters, Leona Skudlarek, Minot, Dorothy Pritschet, Minot, and Evelyn (George) Schumacher, Kenmare, ND; two sisters-in-law, Jackie Goebel, Minot, and Cora Goebel, Nevis, MN. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. His parents, two sisters, Angeline and Elnora Goebel, and three brothers, Leon, Joseph and Leonard Goebel, preceded him in death.

Memorial Service: Friday, October 17, 2003, 1:00 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, ND.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
