John Glick 1937- 2011 John Rolland Glick was born January 27, 1937, in Minot, ND, to Andrew and Amy (Kreider) Glick. He grew up on the family farm east of Minot and attended Nedrose rural school and Surrey High School. He graduated from Hesston (KS) Academy in 1956, and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, VA, in 1959. On June 6, 1957, John was united in marriage to Velda Miller at Elkhart, IN, and they shared 54 years of life together. He was employed as Director of Group Activities at Adriel School, West Liberty, OH, from 1959 to 1961, after which they moved to Minot to begin farming with his father. In 1964 he took over the operation of the dairy farm, and continued living on the farm until his death. He was joined in the farming operations by his son, Arden, in 1981, and they farmed together until John’s retirement in 2002. He was active in the Ward County Dairy Herd Improvement Association and the Land O’ Lakes Cooperative, and served for many years on the Nedrose School Board. Along with his family, he enjoyed hosting several international exchange students, and four Polish agricultural trainees. John was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Minot, where he served on the Trust Committee, as an usher, and sang in the choir. Formerly he was an active member of Fairview Mennonite Church of Surrey and was involved in education and leadership there until its closing. John travelled and camped with his family extensively, and especially enjoyed his trips to Europe to visit family and friends. He was an avid reader and loved good music. He often remarked how privileged he was to live in beautiful North Dakota. He is survived by: his wife, Velda, Minot; sons, Arden (Kari) Glick, Minot, and Brian Glick, Harrisonburg, VA; daughters, Jane (Dan) Doty, Durango, CO, Maria Glick (Christoph Muellner), Linz, Austria, Melanie Clay, San Francisco, CA, and Heidi (Donald) Droegemueller, Minnetonka, MN;grandchildren, Jessi Glick, Jenni Glick (Michael Beadle), Jami (Chris) Sison, Sage Mari, William Droegemueller, and Henry Droegemueller; great-grandson, Kaden Sison; brothers, Oren Glick, and Ervie Glick; sisters, Elizabeth Grandfield, Margaret Metzler, and Lydia Samatar; sister-in-law, Nelda Nussbaum. Funeral: Monday, September 19, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.
