Karen E. Gilbertson 1943 - 2011

Karen Gilbertson PhotoKaren E. Gilbertson, 68, Minot, died Thursday, January 26, 2012 in a Minot hospital following a lengthy illness.

Karen Edna Roesch was born on March 16, 1943, a daughter of Fred and Edna Roesch. She was raised and educated in Crosby, graduating from Crosby High School in 1961. Following her high school graduation, she lived and worked in Montana, before moving to Minot, working at Bell Telephone, as a switch board operator. Karen attended Minot State University, where she obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in education.

On April 11, 1964, Karen was united in marriage Glenn C. Gilbertson in Minot. Following their marriage, they lived in Minot, where Karen taught within the Minot Public School system for several years, Max Public School for one year and taught Adult Computer classes. She was also Secretary of the Business Department at the Minot State University for ten years. Karen loved teaching and sharing her knowledge.

Karen was Glenn’s true soul mate. Together they owned and operated Gilbertson Welding and Prop repair. They enjoyed their many fishing trips together, spending time with family and caring for her cats that they would adopt from the Humane Society. Karen was a very giving, selfless person, always caring for everyone else’s needs before her own. She will be missed by all that knew her. 

Karen is survived by: Her husband of 48 years, Glenn, Minot; daughter Anneliese Smith, Helena, MT, two grandchildren Austin and Savannah; brothers: Calvin (Mille) Roesch, Denver, CO and Duane (Arvilla) Roesch, Mankato, MN; sisters; Elotie (Jerry) Steven, Great Falls, MT, Nola (Bob) Olson, Bismarck, ND; sister-in-law: Claudia Showalter, Lincoln, NB, brothers-in-law: Dean (Karen) Gilbertson, Lincoln, NB, Russell (Jane) Gilbertson, Bismarck, ND, John (Donna) Gilbertson, Bismarck, ND, Curtis (Judy) Gilbertson, Bismarck, and Dan (Sandy) Gilbertson, Minot; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Karen is also survived by her feline friends, Honey Bee, Missy, Snowball and Bootsie.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, brother Clane and his wife Emma Roesch.

Visitation:  There will be no reviewal, however, people may sign a guest register on Friday, one hour prior to the service at the church.

Celebration of Life Service: Friday, February 3, 2012 at 3 pm at the Bread of Life Lutheran Church, Minot, located at 1415 17th Ave SW.

Burial:  A private family burial will take place in the spring of 2012.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Humane Society of Minot.
