Thelma Gieser 1915- 2006

Thelma Gieser, 91, 3205 10th St. SW, Dakota Terrace, Minot, ND, died Sunday, June 18, 2006 at her residence.

Thelma was born on April 4, 1915 (Easter Sunday) to Jacob Arthur and Clara Elizabeth (Cunningham) Wemer in Prairie Township, Keokuk County, Gibson, Iowa.

She moved to Minot, North Dakota, in 1917 with her parents, twin sister, Edna Bell Wemer and brother, Walter.

She attended Nedrose #4 school to the 8th grade when she moved into Minot and worked at Minot State College as a cook's helper, so she could finish high school. Thelma graduated from Minot High School in 1933.

Thelma married Frank Joseph Gieser on February 23, 1936, in Minot. They made their home in Minot where Frank worked for the Great Northern Railroad. She moved back to Iowa when Frank fought in the Pacific Theater during WWII. When Frank was discharged from the military, they moved back to Minot.

Thelma worked as a cook for Kreske's Dime Store, Kruses's Piggly Wiggly, as a baker of pies, Perkett School in the lunchroom, Spain's Produce and as an aid with surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Her husband Frank J. Gieser died on December 23, 1983.

Thelma was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary both of Minot. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the AARP.

She enjoyed dancing as Frank was a good dancer, sewing, baking and embroidering.

Her loving family includes children, Sheryl Ann Jordan, and Martin J. Gieser, both of Minot; twin sister, Edna Bell Wemer, Sigourney, Iowa, seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Special friend, Patty Becker, Minot.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, baby, Joseph Arthur, son Frank Mike Gieser, sisters, Eva Butenschone and Neva Pearl Peterson, brothers, Ray, Herman, Walter, Claire and Glenn.

Prayer Service: Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, June 22, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND

Visitation: Wednesday from noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND
