Betty Jane Gibbs 19- 2006

Betty Jane Gibbs, 80, Minot died Monday, July 10, 2006 in a Minot hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Betty Jane was born on September 27, 1925, the daughter of Warnie and Ethel (Philbrook) Cargo in Bantry, ND. She was reared and educated in the Bantry area, graduating from Bantry High School in 1943. She went on to earn her teaching certificate and taught for two years in a country school near Willow City, ND.

On November 19, 1944, Betty Jane married Cecil V. Gibbs in Bantry, ND. Following their marriage, they moved to Minot where Cecil worked as a grain inspector. His work led them to several cities throughout North Dakota, including Edmunds, Galesburg,
Newburg and Portal. They moved to Havre, MT in 1961 and eventually settled in Minot in 1964. Over the years, as well as being a homemaker, Betty Jane was also
a substitute teacher and managed a grocery store while living in Portal and worked in sales at Ben Franklin in Havre. After moving back to Minot, she was employed at Newberry's and Al's Shoe Inn before retiring in 1987.

Betty Jane was a member of Vincent Methodist Church and was active in ladies groups. She was always proud of her involvement with Rainbow Girls and Eastern Star.

Betty Jane dearly loved her family and enjoyed baking. She was well known for her delicious cookies and caramel rolls. Her hobbies included taking long walks, gardening, dancing, embroidery, curling, visiting, making new friends and reading her Bible. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by: Children: Arlo (Julie) Gibbs, Las Vegas, NV; Dana (Donna) Gibbs,West Fargo, ND; Cathy (Steve) Burton, Minot; six grandchildren:Michael, David, Brian and Laura Gibbs, Nycole and Tyler Burton; great-granddaughter: Shandi Kaye Gibbs; three sisters: Miva Best, Minot; Myrtle Fisher, Towner, ND; Gertrude Naslund, Fargo, ND
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Shay Burton and brother Clyde Cargo

Visitation: Thursday, July 13, 2006 from noon-7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service: Friday, July 14, 2006 at 1:00 p.m.at Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
