Alice Schmitz Gerle 1925 - 2003

Alice Schmitz Gerle, 77, 704 18th St. NW, Minot, died Friday, May 23, 2003, in her home.

Alice Schmitz Gerle was born on December 3, 1925, in Foxholm, ND to John and Mathilda (Roggenbuck) Schmitz.

She was raised and educated in Foxholm, ND and graduated from Foxholm High School on June 4, 1943. After graduation she came to Minot and attended Minot Business College. She worked for Minot Builders Supply Company from 1944 until 1949.

On November 20, 1948, she married Ben Gerle at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Foxholm, ND. Her husband worked for Great Northern (Burlington Northern) Railroad from 1943 until he retired in 1988. Alice and Ben did volunteer work every Monday at the Railroad Museum from 1988 until 1996.

Alice was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot.

Survivors: Husband, Ben Gerle, Minot; three sons: Joseph (Rachel) Gerle, Sierra Vista, AZ; John (Sharon) Gerle and Francis Gerle of Minot; daughter, Rose (Phil) Johnson of Devils Lake, ND; twin brother Robert Schmitz, Richardton, ND; and sister, Lois (Monte) Banna, Minot. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Michael (Robin) Gerle, Chad (Jakala) Gerle, JoDee (Keat) Dean, Michele (Melroy) Schei, Angela Gerle, Shayla Johnson, Katrina Johnson, and Janessa Johnson, nine great grandchildren: David, Brandon and Michael Gerle; Joey and Annalyce Gerle, Logan and Zach Dean; Tyler and Alexis Schei. She preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Brenda Gerle.

Funeral: Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at 11a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation and vigil prayer service: Noon until 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Then starting at 6 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church with a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot.

Burial: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Foxholm, ND on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
