John Gerger 1916 - 2006

John Gerger, 89, Velva, died Sunday, January 22, 2006, in the Souris Valley Care Center, Velva, ND.

John was born October 10, 1916 in Fulda, ND, the son of Adolph and Johanna (Schiele) Gerger. He was raised and educated in the Fulda area. From 1937 to 1939 he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps and was stationed in Mohall, where he drove truck.

On October 23, 1939 he married Barbara Lindeman in Fulda, ND. In 1941 they moved south of Velva where they farmed until 1979. He worked for another 10 years for his cousin before finally retiring from farming in 1989. In 1999 they moved to Voltaire.

John enjoyed wood working, fishing, and spending time with his family. He liked watching T.V. and enjoyed visiting with friends and family over a good cup of coffee. In his younger days he loved to dance and he always enjoyed listening to polka music. John was a jokester and always had great one-liners. He had a good sense of humor and a lot of patience with his grandchildren. He was a devout John Deere man and he never drove anything different.
