Daniel Geiger 1932 - 2004

Daniel Geiger, 71, 501 53rd St. SW, Minot, formerly of Mandan, died Tuesday, February 24, 2004, in a Minot hospital of a diabetes related illness.

Dan was born on June 21, 1932 in Harmon, North Dakota (near Mandan), to Matt and Rose (Hellman) Geiger. In 1936, the family moved to Yakima, WA and Daniel started school there. They then moved to Burt, ND, (near Mott) and he attended school till 1946. The family then returned to the Geiger Homestead Ranch in rural Mandan.

Daniel married Caroline Stein on September 20, 1954 in Mandan. They moved to Minot in 1955. Dan got a job as a foreman for a company that was building the Minot Air Force Base. In 1957, he started Geiger Concrete Construction. He received numerous awards for outstanding quality and service in the concrete business. In 1963, Dan bought the 52 Club and owned it until 1977. He retired from the construction business in 1999 and his sons took over the business.

Daniel was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Dan loved and lived life to it's fullest. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He hunted big game in Canada, Montana and North Dakota. He was well known for his sausage making, wine making and cooking. He loved to play his accordion at get-togethers. He loved his grandchildren and was very proud of their accomplishments.

Dan is survived by Caroline, Minot; daughters, Dannette (Gary) Olson, Minot, LeEtte (Slade) Johnson, Albertson, Montana; sons, Wesley (Bernie) Geiger, Burlington, Scott (Melanie) Geiger, Minot; six grandchildren, Dustin and Jessica Olson, Jason and Jared Geiger, Sheridyn and Shayna Johnson; brothers, Bill (Minnie) Geiger, Mandan, Mel (Geiger), Minot; sister, Lorraine (John) Landis, Mandan, ND; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Claude Geiger; sister and brother-in-law, Robert and Viola Stein and sisters-in-law, Karen Kay Geiger, Dorene Stein.

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, February 27, 2003, at 2 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary: Thursday, today, February at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Visitation: Thursday, today, from noon until 7 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until noon at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot
