Judith Lynn Thompson Garrett
Judith Lynn Thompson Garrett of Minot, ND, died July 5, 2011 under hospice care.
Judy was born in Monticello, Arkansas, the 2nd daughter of the late A.C. and Rachael (Holmes) Thompson. She was a graduate of Monticello High School and the University of Arkansas at Monticello with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. She was a co-owner of Drew Plaza Manufactured Homes Company in Monticello.
Judy was an avid golfer at Monticello Country Club and after her marriage to Michael Zane Garrett, at golf courses around the world. Judy and Zane moved to Minot, ND in 1995. As a military wife, she worked with the airmen and their families as Star Coordinator. She was awarded the Volunteer Service Award for her work with deployments and Shriners Children’s Hospitals and well as Scottish Rite Hospitals. Judy and Mike were also very active, along with many other Air Force personnel, with the Meals on Wheels program in Minot. She has been a lifelong member of the First Methodist Church in Monticello.
Judy is survived by her husband, Mike of Minot and her sister Carole Thompson of Kimberton, PA. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins primarily in Arkansas and Texas, as well as a host of other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Betsy Thompson.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Vincent United Methodist Church in Minot. Friends may also visit from noon until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home in Minot.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Garrett Flood Recovery Fund, the American Cancer Society, the Shriners Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, the Scottish Rite Hospitals of North Dakota or to the charity of your choice.
