Florence Funk 1920- 2009

Florence Funk PhotoFlorence Funk, 89, Bowbells, ND, died Monday, October 5, 2009, in a Kenmare Hospital.

Florence A. Funk was born April 22, 1920, a daughter of Mathias and Anna (Hondl) Funk, on a farmstead located in Bowbells Township, Burke County, south of Bowbells, ND. She was raised on the farm until the age of one, when she and her family moved to a farm located in Carter Township of Burke County, west of Bowbells, ND. She attended grade school in Carter Township. As a young adult, she assisted her parents with the daily operation of the family farm and later assisted her brother, Leo, with the daily operation. She spent her life on the farm and also was a caregiver for her parents.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bowbells, and the Carter Township Homemakers Club.

She enjoyed baking, canning, gardening, bowling, pinochle, and embroidery work. She liked to travel and had traveled to Germany, Australia, Hawaii, and New Zealand. The most memorable trip she took was to visit the Holy Land with a group of people from the church.

Surviving family includes:  brothers, Leo Funk, Kenmare; and Arnold (Leona) Funk, Bowbells; sister, Eleanor Olson, Garrison; and 10 nieces, 5 nephews, and many extended family members.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother-in-law, Vern Olson.

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, October 8, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bowbells.

Interment:
  St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Bowbells, ND.

Visitation: 
Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bowbells.

Vigil Prayer Service
: Wednesday at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bowbells.

Memorials
: are preferred for a Mass to be said in Florence’s name.
