Marie Louise Fuchs 1914 - 2011

Marie was born January 14, 1914, the daughter of Fred and Sophia (Hohn) Goebel in Gyser, MT.  Her dad decided to return the family back to North Dakota in 1928.  They lived in the Minot and Burlington areas.  Marie attended rural schools in Ward County through the 8th grade.  She worked for various farm families in the area. 

On November 11, 1936, she married Ralph Fuchs at St. Mary’s in Foxholm.  They moved to a farm south of Grano in Lockwood Township, which they eventually purchased.  They farmed and raised livestock.  They lived on the farm until 1978 when they purchased a home in Minot.  Ralph died November 2, 1985.  Marie continued living in her home until 2006 when she moved into Somerset Court.  She became a resident of ManorCare Health in March of 2010.

Marie loved playing cards, especially pinochle.  Scrabble and bingo were also her favorites and she loved to win.  She crocheted Afghans and hundreds of baby caps for RSVP.  Marie was a great cook.  For a number of years she cooked for the 4-H and Farmers Union camps during the summer. 

Marie was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Minot, and was a former member of St. Mary’s and St. Henry’s of Foxholm, and St. John’s in Lansford, ND.  She was also a member of the Grano Happy Homemakers, Women of the Moose, Minot Senior Center, Catholic Daughters and St. Cecilia’s Guild of the Confraternity of St. Leo’s.

Marie is survived by her sons, Dr. Eugene (Marti) Fuchs, Portland, OR, James (Becky) Fuchs, Fort Collins, CO, and Donald (Sandie) Fuchs, Canby, OR; daughters, Marjorie (Alan) Westphal, Minot, and Janice (Ron Kropf) Allen, Janesville, WI; son-in-law, Jim Ruyak, Remer, MN; nine grandchildren, Dawn Westphal, Troy Westphal, Christopher Fuchs, Andrea Fuchs, Dr. Molly Fuchs, Jeff Allen, Schawn Allen, Michael Fuchs, and Katherine Heath; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Herbert (Beulah) Goebel, Burlington, ND, and Francis (Gerry) Goebel, Minot; sisters, Dolores (Tony) Feist, Logan, ND, and Sally Melland, Williston, ND; sister-in-law, Loretta Fuchs, Minot.  Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sophie Goebel; husband, Ralph Fuchs; daughter, Joan Ruyak; brothers, Theodore, John, Clarence, and Norbert; sister, Elvina; brother-in-law, Florian Fuchs; sisters-in-law, Elenore Reeder, Bernice Schaefer, and Edna Schaefer.

Funeral: Friday, February 4, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Signing of the register book: Thursday, February 3, 2011 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 7:00 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: St. Henry’s Cemetery, rural Foxholm, ND, in the spring of 2011.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to 2nd Story of Minot or Minot Catholic Schools.

Immediately following the funeral mass, everyone is invited to join the family at the Knights of Columbus Clubroom located at 2601 North Broadway.

The graveside service will take place at a later date in the spring of 2011.

The Fuchs family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Marie.
