Hazel A. Frye 1931 - 2002

Hazel A. Frye, 71, 3100-11th Ave. SE, # B-7, Minot, ND, died Friday, July 26, 2002, in a Minot Hospital.

Hazel was born to Frank and Alma (Tandberg) Pierson at Russell, ND on February 20, 1931. She attended school in Russell and Newburg. On October 27, 1945 she married Roy R. Frye at Plentywood, MT. Following their marriage, they lived in the Glenburn and Deering areas for many years. They moved to Makoti in 1967 and she owned and operated the Makoti Café and later the Wabek Bar. Roy Frye died on January 30, 1993 and she then moved into Minot for health reasons.

Hazel was a member of First Lutheran Church, First Lutheran Church Women's Circle, the Women of the Moose, and American Legion Auxiliary. She was a former member of First Lutheran Church, Wabek and Plaza, and the Eagles.

Survivors: companion, Clifton Talley, Minot; five sons, Roger(Kim)Frye, San Jose, CA; Jerald(Marcella)Frye, Minot, Eldon(Cheri)Frye, Charlson; Gayland(Fay)Frye, Green River, WY; and Levi(Melody)Frye, Springer, NM; three daughters, Denise(Ron) Armstrong, Minot; Glenys(Douglas) Holter, Berthold; and Lynnette(Rick) Klimpel, Velva; step children, Lee Ann(Douglas) Lewis, Austin, Texas; Clinton Talley, Moorhead, MN; Joe(Marie)Talley , Oxbow; Karen(Peter)Mead, St. Paul, MN; Royce(Christa)Talley, Anchorage, Alaska; adopted children, Jerry(Sherry)Darling, Minot; James (Jeannie) Darling, Coeur D Alene, Idaho; Donna Wiles, League City, Texas; and Darlene Absetz, Orlando, Florida; 46 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren: brothers, Lawrence Pierson, Houston, Texas; and Stanley (Sandra)Pierson, Minot; sisters, Francis Kaeding, Minot; and Myrtle(Lloyd)Lyson, Minot. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, one daughter, LaVonne Frye, one granddaughter, Jennifer Frye, parents, one daughter-in-law, Susan Frye, one son-in-law, Benjamin Valtr, two brothers, Ervin and Robert Pierson and two sisters, Shirley Neumiller and Lorraine Matehs.

Funeral: Thursday, August 1, 2002, at 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Minot.

Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Glenburn, on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

Visitation: Wednesday, July 31, 2002, from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Music: Congregational Hymns, "In the Garden," "Amazing Grace," and "How Great Thou Art" Gary Stenehjem organist
