Edwin "Eddy"
Franz 1919 - 2005 Edwin "Eddy" Franz, 85, Minot, died Wednesday, January 19, 2005, in a Minot nursing home. Eddy was born on April 20, 1919, in Napoleon, ND, the son of John and Pauline (Graff) Franz. He was reared and educated in Napoleon. He worked in Sidney and Billings, MT until moving to Minot in 1941. He married Mary Peterson on July 18, 1968, in Minot. While living in Minot he worked for various employers including Westland Oil Company, Midwest Lumber, Atlas Ready Mix and most recently for Rick Collins as a Cement Truck Driver. Eddy retired in 1987. He was once married to Barbara Volk. Eddy was a member of the American Legion, the Eagles Aerie and the Moose Lodge, all of Minot. Eddy loved playing bingo with his friends at the Grain Hopper, playing cards, eating chocolate chip cookies and spending time with his grandchildren. "Papa," as he was known by his family will be missed by all. Survivors: daughters, Kathleen (Mark) Halverson, Onalaska, WI, Karen (Hal) Hollenbeck, Boise, ID, and Kandi (Nick) Spagnoli, Renton, WA; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brother, Aldon Franz, Napoleon; sisters, Edna (Lorry) Brothen, Minot, Ellena (Walter) Rau and Emma Rau, all of Napoleon and Leona Schwartzenberger, Grand Forks; stepchildren, Lori Peterson, Sheila (Tom) Dalen, and Shannon Peterson, all of Minot; eight step-grandchildren; and several niece, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Albert Franz, sister, Martha Kringen, and stepson, Sheldon Peterson. Cremation has taken place and internment will take place in the spring of 2005 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.
