Harold Fosness 1920 - 2004


Harold Fosness, 83, of Leonard, Mn, died Saturday, January 31, 2004 at the MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.

He was born July 13, 1920 at Norwood, MN, the son of Ole and Marie(Roksvaag) Fosness. In the fall of 1942, he joined the US Army. On April 7, 1945, he was wounded and spent several months in the hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. After being discharged, he moved to North Dakota where he marrried Betty Jean Herdt on June 10, 1947 in Barton, ND. She died in 2000. Harold worked for John Deere in Glenburn, ND for five years as a mechanic, Chrysler Motors in Minot for 17 years, and then as a mechanic at the Minot Air Force Bases and the Grand Forks Air Force Base. He reitred and moved to Bagley and then to Leonard where he resided at the time of his death.

Survivors: include his two sons, Gayle Fosness, Florida and Bruce Fosness, Leonard, MN, 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, six sisters, Virginia Lafleur of Rushford, MN, Gladys Isaacson of Longview, WA, Dorothy Gonvold, Lilly Olsen and Elsie Arendss all of Butte, MT, Mae Metcalfe of Dunsetih, ND; three brothers, Ole of Blue Ridge, MN, Norman of Farge and Einar of Maple Valley, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Earl and brother, Peter.

Services: Thursday, February 5, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Cease Funeral Home, Bagley, MN, the Rev. Dan Bowman, officiating;

Saturday, February 7, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND, the Rev. Hampton Kavlie officating.

Casket Bearers: Donavon Fosness, Allen Fosness, Glen Fosness, Marshell NewGard, Cody NewGard and Darrel Horsfall.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot, ND
