In Loving Memory of Dan Flath 1915-2007
Daniel was born on a farm home southwest of Max, ND on June 10, 1915, the second youngest of nine children born to John and Karolina Flath. Dan shared a birthday with his sister, Bertha and was the last living child. He was reared and educated in the Max area. Dan was in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) for six months and then returned to help his parents on the farm. On January 13, 1942, at the courthouse in Sidney, MT he married Gladys Thompson. They farmed southeast of Max on the original Christ Thompson homestead their entire married lives. Gladys died on July 8, 2001and that summer Dan's daughter, Linda and her family moved to the farm to be with him. On Thanksgiving Day 2001 they all moved into Minot. Dan loved his hometown and did anything that he could to help out the City of Max. Dan was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church of Max and served on the church council for ten years. He was director and secretary of the Max Farmers Elevator for 34 years, was on the Max Public School Board from 1957 until 1967, was a director on the Max Fire District Board for 20 years, was clerk of Ulrich School District #57 and was a member of the Max civic club. He also was a member of the Eagles Aerie and Elks of Minot. Dan loved photography and taking pictures of sunsets. He also
built over 35 clocks and repaired over 100 clocks. The clocks
he built were patterned after a German style clock that his father
