- 2010 Bertha Mae Frye was born on October 8, 1920, a daughter of Duane “Red” and Verbena Frye in Lansford, ND. She was raised and educated in the Lansford area. On July 14, 1941, Bertha was united in marriage to Frank “Cecil” Brown. They made their home on a farm near Deering, ND before moving into Minot, where Bertha worked as a waitress. She also attended Sylvia’s Modeling School in Minot. Cecil died July 8, 1987. Following his death, she continued to reside in Minot. On June 17, 1992, Bertha was united in marriage to Hilmar Flaten in Grand Junction, CO, while on vacation. They made their home in Minot, where she enjoyed playing card games, and working in her garden and flower garden. Surviving relatives: Husband Hilmar Flaten, Minot; daughters: Jeannette Jenson, Minot, Elaine Anderson, Minot, Bonnie MacDonald, Grand Junction, CO, Patricia Bender, Minot; Thirteen grandchildren: Numerous great-grandchildren: and one great-great grandchild; brothers: Gary (Barb) Frye, Minot; sister: Nadine Pierson, Minot; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, husband Frank “Cecil,” and son Dennis. Visitation: Thursday, July 8, 2010 from 11am until 1 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot Graveside service: Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 2 pm at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot Officiant: Rev.
