Jacqueline "Jo" Flagstad 1923 - 2006


Jacqueline "Jo" Flagstad, 83, Minot, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006 in a Minot nursing care facility.

She was born on April 8, 1923 in Minneapolis, MN a daughter of Byron and Genevieve (Bradley) Dickey. She was raised and educated in Minneapolis and graduated from high school there. On February 14, 1946 in Minneapolis, she married Carl O. Flagstad. In October of 1948, the couple moved to Minot, where Mr. Flagstad accepted a job as a reporter for the Minot Daily News, and became a well- known columnist. Carl O. Flagstad died on February 2, 1993.

Jo was employed at various times with New York Life Insurance, Minot State University, Trinity Lutheran Homes and for the Welcome Wagon of the City of Minot. She took special interest in her children's lives and enjoyed the numerous activities in which her grandchildren were involved. She never missed a sporting event or concert, and was their biggest fan. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on Christmas and the Fourth of July, loving every minute of family time. Jo also enjoyed gardening, canning, throwing darts, playing bridge, watching tennis and skating, and driving her little red convertible around town and coast-to coast to visit friends and family. She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot and the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include her daughter Leslie Scofield and her husband Mike of Minot; sons, Bryan Flagstad of Chula Vista, CA, Mark Flagstad and his wife Sandy, of Minot, Carl Flagstad and his wife Heidi, of Minot, Michael Flagstad of Shepherdstown, WV, Greg Flagstad and his wife Theresa, of Minot, and Dan Flagstad of Minot; grandchildren, Greg, Shane, Ashley, Kevin, Molly, Hayley, Erin, Tim, Jordan, and Spencer Flagstad, Angie Sholl, Deanna Heit, Christopher Erickson, Kelly Butz, Billy Luetzen and Hilary Sundahl; great grandchildren, Lindsay and Hunter Heit, Johnny and Kade Butz and Nina Flagstad, brother, Donald Dickey of Minneapolis, MN; sister Pat Pivec of Minneapolis, MN; and sisters-in-law Mary Lou Doll of Minneapolis, MN, Margaret Guthrie of Seattle, WA, and Virginia Hoyt of St. Paul, MN. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, her parents, sisters Elaine Nelson, Dorothy Peterson and Donna Cunningham, and one daughter, Mary Elizabeth.

Funeral: Friday, May 5, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Thursday, May 4, 2006 from noon until 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday, May 4, 2006 at 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND
