Carl O. "Kip" Flagstad 1950 - 2011
Carl O. “Kip” Flagstad Jr., 60, native of Minot and a longtime Minot lawyer, died Thursday, May 26, 2011, in a Minot hospital.
Carl O. Flagstad Jr., was born June 5, 1950, in Minot, a son of Carl O. Flagstad Sr. and Jacqueline (Dickey) Flagstad. He grew up in Minot and attended Little Flower Elementary School and Bishop Ryan High School, graduating from there in 1968. He received an appointment from Senator Milton R. Young (R-ND) to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. He spent two years there. He later earned a law degree at the North Dakota School of Law in Grand Forks.
He returned to Minot where he since had made his home and practiced law. He was Ward County Assistant State’s Attorney for some years before entering private practice.
Mr. Flagstad had a reputation as a fighter for the underdog, the clients with little to defend them and few resources. His family and friends describe him as having a heart of gold. He also liked to travel and to camp with his camper buddies and their families. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers.
On June 28, 1997, he married Heidi (Tengesdal) Sundahl at Minot. They celebrated 14 wonderful years of marriage together.
Those who shared in his life: Wife of 14 years, Heidi, Minot; daughters, Deanna (Scott), Heit, Glenburn, Hilary Sundahl, Molly Jacqueline Flagstad and Hayley O. Flagstad, all of Minot; son, Kevin (Jody) Flagstad of Minot; two grandchildren, Lindsay and Hunter Heit; brothers, Mark (Sandy), Greg (Theresa) and Dan, all Minot, and Michael, Warren, PA; sister, Leslie (Mike) Scofield, Minot, and a number of nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his former wife, Vicky McDermott.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Bryan, and an infant sister, Mary Elizabeth.
Funeral: Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot.
Vigil Service: Monday, May 30, 2011, at 7 p.m. at the church.
Visitation: Monday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, and after 6 p.m. at the church.
Burial: Tuesday at 3:30 at the Hurley Township Cemetery, Renville County, near Loraine, ND.
Memorials are preferred to the Triangle Y Camp of Garrison, ND or to the International Music Camp.

Following the Funeral Mass, everyone is invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship in the fellowship hall of the church.
Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery. There will be no formal procession.
