Marcella S. Fischer 1920 - 2011

Marcella Fischer PhotoMarcella S. Fischer, 91, Minot, formerly of Makoti, ND, died Tuesday, May 18, 2011 in a Minot hospital.

Marcella S. Olson was born on February 24, 1920, a daughter of Peter C. and Ella M. Olson in Comertown Township, Westby, MT. She attended elementary school at Ueland rural school and High School at Comertown, MT, graduating in 1937. In 1938, she enrolled at Trinity School of Nursing in Minot, graduating in 1942. Following her graduation, Marcella worked in Williston, ND, Vancouver, WA, and Rugby, ND, before returning to Minot in 1969, where she worked at Trinity Hospital until June of 1974. She remained active in various nursing profession organizations for many years.

On November 22, 1973, Marcella was united in marriage to Howard Fischer. Following their marriage, they lived in Minot, where Marcella taught at the Trinity School of Nursing until May of 1974, when they moved to the Makoti area, where Marcella was a homemaker. While in Makoti, Marcella was a very active member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s WELCA, Makoti Senior Citizens and the American Legion Auxiliary. The couple wintered for several years in Mesa, AZ. Howard died in June of 1991 . Following his death, Marcella remained in Makoti, until moving to Minot in February of 2011, residing at Edgewood Vista.

Marcella took much pride in her flowers, her garden and her yard. She volunteered many hours at the Makoti Park. Marcella loved the Makoti Threshing show and looked forward to the excitement every year. Marcella loved spending the holidays and special family gatherings with Joel and Connie Fischer and their families. Her great-great nieces and nephews were very special to her.

Marcella is survived by:  Siblings: Lee O. Olson, Issaquah, WA, Lorraine Ramey, Bonita Springs, FL, Eunice Williams, Silverdale, WA;  numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Peter Olson, Donald Olson, Doris Davis, Eleanor Opseth-Poehler, Phyllis Hagen and Lois Olson.

Visitation:  Sunday, May 22, 2011 from 1 pm until 5 pm at Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service:  Monday, May 23, 2011 at 10:30  am at Hope Lutheran Church, Makoti, ND

Burial: Monday, May 23, 2011 at 2 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot
