Inga Farstad 1916 - 2009

Inga Farstad, 92, Minot, formerly of Battleview, ND, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in a Minot hospital.

Inga Elizabeth (Olsson) Farstad was born on December 23, 1916, a daughter of Ole A. and Helena (Bukkplass) Olson on the family farm , Thorson Township Burke County, ND. She graduated from McGregor, ND High School in 1935. She attended Business College in Minot and was employed by the ASC Office in Bowbells for several years.

On October 5, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harold E. Farstad in Columbus, ND. After a honeymoon trip to the Black Hills, Harold and Inga returned to their farm north of Battleview, ND, where they settled into the job of farming.

Besides being a partner in farming with Harold, Inga was an active member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Battleview where she was very involved in church activities and loved to play the piano. In addition, she was a 4-H leader and eventually, after retiring from farming, she and Harold moved to Powers Lake, where the became active participants in the Senior Citizens Center.

Some of Inga's favorite pastimes were gardening, knitting, hardanger, playing pool, playing cards and visiting with her many friends and relatives.

Those who had the privilege of sharing her life were her husband of 68 years, Harold; daughters Bonnie (Lowell) Johnson, Betty (John R.) Holmen and Sandra (Steve) Bakken.
She cherished her nine grandchildren: David, Scott and Mark Johnson; John and Jeff Holmen, Stephanie Walker; Christopher Bakken, Angela Walen and Chad Bakken;
Along with her nineteen great-grandchildren: Blake, Tyesha and Amanda Johnson; Andrew Johnson; Reid and Avery Johnson; Zachary Gabriella, Sophia and Anya Holmen; Alexandra and Michael Holmen; Jake and Paxton Walker; Chase Callison, Baylee Bakken; Cody Bakken, Serena Walen, and Riley Shuey; her brother Elmer Olson and sister: Alice Running Kessler; one sister-in-law: Lucille Olson, one brother-in-law: James Flanagan, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Inga was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Olaf and Melvin, two sisters Thelma and Helga and on daughter Susan Irene.

Visitation: Friday, April 17, 2009 at from 9 am until 11 am followed by a prayer service 11 am at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Visitation: Friday, April 17, 2009 from 3:30 until 6:30 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Powers Lake and one hour prior to service time in the church

Funeral Service: Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Bethel Lutheran Church, Battleview, ND

Burial: Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Battleview, ND at a later date in the spring of 2009

Memorials are preferred to Anne Carlsen Center for Children in Jamestown, Bethel Lutheran Church, Battle View, ND, Edgewood Vista of Minot or an organization of donor's choice.

Immediately following the funeral service everyone is invited to join the family in the lower level of the church for lunch and fellowship.

Inga's family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Inga.
