Ernest Farnum 1927 - 2010 Ernest “Smokey” Farnum was born June 15, 1927, a son of Leonard and Tilda (Helgeson) Farnum, in Renville County, near Mohall. He was raised in Mohall until 1937, when he moved with his family to Lansford. He attended Lansford School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1944. He proudly served his country during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1948. Following his honorable discharge, he worked as a janitor, farmhand, and as a custom combiner for Mike Larkin and Charlie Sanders. He had also worked in the oil field as a roustabout. He continued to reside in Lansford until 2006, when he moved to Minot and resided at Henry Towers. He was a member of the Lansford American Legion Post # 279 for 50 years. He was very active in the American Legion by placing American Flags on veteran’s graves at the Lansford Cemetery for 20 years. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753 in Minot. Smokey enjoyed visiting with people, doing yardwork, and spending time and playing with his dog, Little Bit. Surviving family includes: sister, Erna (Bill) Tkachenko, Minot; nieces and nephews, Marlene (Arnold) Brilz, Minot, and Robert Blowers and his friend, Donalda, and several other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
