Steven C. Farhart 1955 - 2003

Steven C. Farhart, 48, 22 South Main Street #47, Minot, ND, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at his home.

Steve Farhart was born in Williston, ND, on January 17, 1955, to Joe and June (Nielsen) Farhart. He grew up on a farm northwest of Stanley, ND in Cottonwood, Township. Steve graduated from Stanley High School in 1973 where he lettered in track and basketball. While in high school he played the drums in concert and jazz band. He also played drums in a traveling band called Electric Sunshine. Upon his graduation from high school he attended Dickinson State College for two years before attending the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. He graduated from UND with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in May of 1977. He then attended the University of North Dakota Law School graduating from there in May of 1980 with a Degree of Juris Doctor. While attending UND he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, the North Dakota Law Review Staff and an author of Case Comment in the ND Law Review.

He served as a law clerk for Judges Roy Ilvedson, E. Nels Olson, Wally Berning and Jon R. Kerian in NW District Court in Minot and worked for many years with Attorney Ella Van Berkom. Steve had his own law practice until medical conditions forced him to stop practicing law full time. He then worked part time specializing in juvenile court.

Steve was once married to Janis LeClaire.

He was confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ross. He was a member of the State Bar Association of North Dakota, the American Bar Association, the Ward County Bar Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Steve loved to joke around with people. He always had a joke or one-liner ready to tell. He had a love of music and words. Give him a word and he would give you a song.

Steve is survived by his father, Joe of Minot, sisters, Cathy (Greg) Landon, Ryder, ND, Linda (John) Varberg, Lawrence, Kansas, and Nancy Farhart, Williston. He is also survived by his nephews, Joseph Varberg, Byron Varberg, Justin Landon, Jeremy Landon and his niece, Chelsey Landon. A number of aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Steve was preceded in death by his mother, June, his grandparents and one niece.

Funeral: Monday, May 5, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Saturday and Sunday noon until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Burial: Fairview Cemetery, Stanley, North Dakota, Monday, May 5, 2003, at 2:30 p.m.
