Harriet Evenson 1914 - 2005

Harriet Evenson, 91, Granville, died Sunday, July 31, 2005 in a Minot nursing home.

Harriet was born on January 26, 1914, on the family farm in Afton Township, the daughter of Harry and Lena (Miller) Corwin. She attended country school at Frost School District #2, Ward County through the 8th grade, and then quit to help raise her three younger siblings and help break horses with her father to use in the fields and herd cattle.

She met her future husband Chuck when he came to do some carpenter work on the farm. Harriet was united in marriage to Childs O. "Chuck" Evenson on September 22, 1951 in Minot. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Minot until moving to the Denbigh area in 1956.

Harriet was a strong, determined, hard-working woman who spent countless hours working with her cattle, tending to her vegetable garden, and her greatest love her flower gardens, and later helping to raise her two oldest grandchildren and spoiling all of them.

Childs died on November 2, 1989. After his death she continued to live on the farm and then moved to Granville. After suffering a stroke in November 2003, she entered Manorcare where she resided until the time of her death.

She is survived by: Son, James (Kathy) Evenson, Towner, ND; daughter Judy (fiancé, Dr. Perry Nermoe) Erickson, Towner, four grandchildren, Scott (fianceé, Kayla Lisburg) Evenson, Casselton, ND; Beverly Evenson, Minot; John Evenson, Towner, and Jessica Evenson, Towner. sisters; Elizabeth "Betty" Ellingson, Minot; Marion "Elaine" Kohler, Max; Lois (Phil) Jensen, Logan;

Harriet was preceded in death by: her husband, sister Luella Westphal and her husband William; brother Edwin Corwin and his wife Myrtle; and brothers-in-law, Ben Ellingson and Gust Kohler.

Visitation: Thursday August 4, 2005 from noon until 7:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service: Friday, August 5, 2005 at 10:30a.m. At the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Burial: 12:45 p.m. at the Granville Community Cemetery, Granville, ND.
