Everett O. Evenson, 76, Velva, died Monday, January 8, 2007, in his home.

Everett was born August 29, 1929 in Stanley, ND to Edwin and Olga (Lein) Evenson. He was raised and educated in Stanley.

He joined the United States Army in 1951, and served in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1953 and returned to North Dakota. In 1960, Everett married Betty Whitmore Gray. Following their marriage they made their home in Stanley where he worked for Mountrail Electric until 1969. The family then moved to Velva, where he worked for Verendrye Electric until 1980 as operations manager. Everett finished his career at Lower Yellowstone Electric in Sidney, MT, and retired in 1991.

He was past city council member for the cities of Velva and Stanley, and was chairman of the 1976 Velva Bi-Centennial Committee. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion for over 50 years. He served as Post Commander and District Commander in both Stanley and Velva.

Survivors: Wife of 46 years, Betty, Velva; children, Cindy (Dan) Irmen, Soldotna, AK, Jackie (Fritz) Wold, Phoenix, AZ, Mike (Susan) Gray, Denver, CO, Mary Sue (Jack) Simmerman, Rock Springs, WY, Gwen (Butch) Colby, Voltaire, Holly (Kevin) McKibben, Haymarket, VA; 16 grandchildren, Jessica, Ashley, Jake, Andrea, Laura, Eric, Angie, Kalan, Andy, Emmi, Abbie, Ross, Blake, Conner, Theresa, and Stephanie; six great-grandchildren, Lucas, Logan, Avery, Ashur, Lynlee and Jonas; sisters, Dot Wamre and Shirley Hutchins, both of Williston, Colleen (Dave) Carruth, Buena Park, CA and Darlene Van Daele, Hardin, MT; brothers, Gary (Sue) Evenson and Bill (Marilyn) Evenson, all in Stanley; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents, and a younger brother.

Funeral: Friday, January 12, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva.

Visitation: Thursday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva. There will be no reviewal Friday prior to the service in the church.

Burial: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva, ND.
