Glenna Evashenko PhotoGlenna Eleanor Evashenko, 93, Velva died Monday, May 21, 2007 in the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva.

Glenna was born on a South Prairie farm south of Velva, the daughter of Robert L. and Jennie (Clark) Wasson. She was raised in the Velva area and graduated from Velva High School in 1933.

On August 5, 1933 she married George Evashenko and they farmed south of Velva. They moved to a farm southeast of Voltaire in 1939 where they farmed together until George's death in 1969. In 1970, Glenna moved the farm house into Velva where she lived until entering the Souris Valley Car Center in the fall of 2003.

Glenna was a life long member of the Methodist Church growing up participating in youth activities at the Velva church, then became active in the Voltaire Methodist Church until it merged with the Velva United Methodist Congregation in the early 1950's. She sang in the church choir and was active in United Methodist Women locally and on a county and state-wide basis. Glenna was a charter member of the Voltaire Homemakers Club and held county and state Extension Homemakers Club offices. She was a 4-H leader and active in the Velva Band Mothers.

Known for her many pursuits in sewing & crafts, Glenna's handiwork in producing stuffed dolls and animals, hand-stitched pillow tops, quilts and potholders have made their way into the lives and homes of thousands throughout the world. Her hand painted ceramics and oil paintings grace the curios and walls of hundreds of homes and public places. Glenna's lifelong collection of local/regional news articles, exhibited in at least one volume for each Velva High School graduating class since the early 1900's, is on display and available at the Velva Public Library.

Survivors include sons Dwaine (Gloria) Evashenko, New Hope, MN; Donavon (Janice) Evashenko, Chesterfield, MO and D'ann Riley, Smyrna, DE; sister Evelyn Bostow, Tampa, FL; four grandsons and four granddaughters and six great grandchildren. Glenna was preceded in death by her husband, George Evashenko, her parents, and brothers Kenneth Wasson, George Eugene Wasson and Arnold Douglas Wasson.

Visitation: Thursday May 24, 2007 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Velva.
