Harold Erlien 1914 - 2010

Harold Erlien PhotoHarold Erlien, 96, Minot, formerly of Benedict and Max, died Thursday, September 16, 2010 in a Minot nursing home.

Harold was born on August 15, 1914, a son of Ole H and Minnie (Olson) Erlien on his grandfather’s  farm near Benedict, ND. He attended country schools in the area, and graduated from Velva High School in 1935. Following his graduation, Harold managed the family farm for several years

Harold was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country in England during World War II.  Following his discharge, Harold returned to North Dakota, where he worked on the Garrison Dam project. He also worked as a handyman.  

He was a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church, where he was active in the choir, and served as choir director. Harold enjoyed going to horse sales, watching ball games and fixing clocks. In his younger years he enjoyed rollerskating.

Surviving relatives:  Sisters: Leona Guttormson, Minot, Inez Nelson, Carlton, OR, Sylvia (Palmer) Iverson, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

 Harold was preceded in death by his parents , brothers Art, Lowell, Elmo, sister Lila Narum, brothers-in-law Gullick Gullickson, Carl Guttormson, Leonard Narum, Lloyd “Buzz”Nelson, sister-in-law Cora Erlien, niece Julie Kay Narum and nephew Gary Ellis Narum.  

Visitation: Wednesday, September 22, 2010 from 2-7 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service:  Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Concordia Lutheran Church, Benedict, ND

Burial: Bethania Lutheran Cemetery, Benedict, ND

Immediately following the graveside service, everyone is invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship in the fellowship hall of the church. Those not going to the cemetery may begin the luncheon.

The Erlien family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Harold.
