Alvin "Al" Engelhard 1936 - 2010 Al was born October 28, 1936, in Glenburn, ND, the son of Eugene and Lena (Eckert) Engelhard. Al was raised and educated in Glenburn and graduated from Glenburn High School in 1955. Al was united in marriage to Ardith “Ardy” Johnson on April 25, 1957, at Little Flower Catholic Church in Minot, ND. They made their home in Deering for a year and in Parshall for two years, prior to moving to Minot in 1961. In 1970, the couple moved to Roseglen where they lived and raised their four children. In 1985, they moved to Mesa, AZ, and lived there until Al retired. Following the death of his loving wife of 48 years in 2005, Al moved to Yakima, Washington with long time family friend, Jeannette Christ, and her dog, Sophie. From there they spent time traveling between the farm in Glenburn, North Dakota and his winter home in Mesa, Arizona visiting family and friends. Al valued and loved quality time with his family and friends and he lived life to the fullest. Al loved fishing, boating, gardening, fixing things and being a caretaker. He was an avid film-maker and picture taker. Al was a natural teacher who shared his knowledge with anyone who was interested in listening and needing advice. He was also very proud of all the family’s accomplishments. Alvin is survived by daughters: Nancy (Jamie) Huyck of Gillette, WY and Sherri Engelhard of Scottsdale, AZ; Sons: Terry (Dorian) Engelhard of Minot, ND and Todd Engelhard of Glenburn, ND; Grandchildren: Jessica (Cory) West, Nicole (Brian) Bickett, Alicia (Matthew) Hauff, Dana (Dave) Dannewitz, Chelsey Engelhard, Zachary Engelhard, Katie Snellings and Drew Snellings; Great-Grandchildren: Joshua, Courtnei, Justin and Coulter West; Brothers: Dennis (Deb) Engelhard of Salem, OR and Orvin (Bernadette) Engelhard of Bismark, ND; Sister: Evelyn Smith of Chapel Hill, NC ; and a number of nieces and nephews. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ardith; grandson, Eric; brother, Merlyn “Mert” and sister, Anita Bloms. Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, March 12, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Little Flower Catholic Church, Minot.
