Ervin E. Engel 1920 - 2008 Ervin was born on August 12, 1920, the son of Emanuel and Dorothy (Edinger) Engel. He was raised on the family farm near Denhoff, ND and graduated with honors from Denhoff High School. He furthered his education at Capital Commercial College in Bismarck. On July 15, 1942, Ervin enlisted into the United States Army, where he served for four years during WWII on active duty in the European Theater, and participated as a Medical Quarryman in the Normandy Invasion. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant in March, 1946. In May of 1946 he began to work for Dakota National Bank in Bismarck, as a trainee under the Veterans Bill of Rights Training Program. He became a member of the National Guard, while in Bismarck. On June 18, 1949, he was united in marriage to Elaine D. Gregoryk at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bismarck. He transferred to the First National Bank in Minot, later named Midwest Bank, now Wells Fargo. He served as auditor and later as a supervisor of the bookkeeping department. He furthered his bookkeeping education and graduated in 1969 from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. Ervin was active in the community and also his church; serving in numerous capacities when needed. He was director and also treasurer of Junior Chamber of Commerce and later a charter member of the Minot Exchange Club and Jaycee's. He served on the governing board of St. Joseph's Hospital, Finance officer and Director of the American Legion. Ervin served on the building committee for the Little Flower Catholic School and Bishop Ryan High School. He was a charter member of St. John's Catholic Church, serving on the church council and as an usher. He was a member of the Eagles and Elks lodges, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion. He received many church and community awards, and in August of 1985, he retired as Senior Vice President of Norwest Bank. Those who shared in his life: Ervin was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Marie Wood, one infant granddaughter, brothers Walter and Rueben and sister-in-law Rachel. Visitation: Thursday, July 24, 2008 from noon until 7 pm at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday at 5 pm in the funeral home.
