Irwin "Irv" Emil 1937 - 2005

Irwin "Irv" Emil, 67, 1724 9th St. SW, Minot, ND, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at a Minot hospital, surrounded by his family.

Irwin Lyle Emil was born on December 29, 1937, the son of Andrew and Ann (Baklenko) Emil in Minot, North Dakota. He was raised in Benedict, and graduated from Max High School in 1956. He then attended Wahpeton State School of Science where he earned his two year degree in Auto Mechanics.

Irv enlisted in the US Army on July 6, 1961. He proudly served his country, was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, and was honorably discharged on June 30, 1967. Irv married Connie Sundbakken in Benedict, ND in 1964. They made their home in Minot and raised three daughters together. They were later divorced.

After college, Irv started employment at Benedict Implement. He was then employed at Minot Implement as a mechanic for approximately 20 years. After that he went to work for Morelli's Distributing as a mechanic.

In earlier days Irv enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing and cooking. More recently, his interest was NASCAR racing and Air Shows. He especially enjoyed having all three daughters together, and visiting with family and friends. He loved his Sunday dinners at his daughter, Kim's house, and the drives he took to visit the farm and his sister and brother-in-law.

Surviving family includes: daughters: Kim (Bruce) Whittemore of Minot; Shelly Emil and Karla Emil, and her fiancé, Nick Sande, all of Minneapolis, MN; sister: Eleanor (Ed) Erickson of Benedict;
niece: Nancy (Tim) Bauer and their children, Kali, Nicolas, Douglas, and Tessa, all of Max; nephew: Greg Erickson and his son, Eric, both of Bismarck and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Irv was preceded in death by his parents; Andrew and Ann Emil.

Funeral: Saturday, April 30, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot, ND.

Interment:
at 4:30 at Greatstone Township Cemetery, rural Benedict, ND.

Visitation: Friday from noon until 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
