Francis “Frank” Delaney Ellingson was born October 9, 1930, a son of Jesse and Ida (Nelson) Ellingson, in South Viking, ND. He was raised and educated in South Viking. He graduated from Maddock High School in 1948. He was baptized and confirmed at South Viking Lutheran Church. He then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, where he received his Associates Degree in Business.

Frank enlisted in the United States Air Force January 2, 1951. He proudly served his country during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, and the UN Service Medal. He was honorably discharged November 19, 1953.

Frank was united in marriage to Eileen E. Griffin December 17, 1955, in Minot, ND. He started working as a bookkeeper for Northwest Sporting Goods in 1955. He then became co-owner/operator in 1960 and finally sole-owner in 1988. Frank liquidated the business in August of 1999.

He was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie, Elks Club, American Legion Post #26, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #753, and was a lifetime member of the Minot Gun Club, all of Minot.  He enjoyed playing pool, was an avid bowler, enjoyed fishing and trapshooting in his earlier years.  

While working, as well as following his retirement, he and Eileen wintered in Mesa, AZ.  He enjoyed golfing, watching all kinds of sporting events on television, relaxing in his recliner, and going for a drive in the car. He loved sweets of any kind, especially candy. He also enjoyed his furry friend and companion, Maddie. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

His loving family includes:  wife of 56 years, Eileen, Minot; son, Steve (Vickie) Ellingson, Minot; daughter, Lisa Grigas, and her significant other, Mike Kaveny, Buffalo, MN; grandchildren, Lindsey Grigas, and her fiancé, Joe Goldade, David Ellingson, Brock Grigas, and his significant other, Brittany Presley and Cheyanne (Cole) Lovitt; one great-granddaughter, Hadley Grigas; and one great-grandson on the way, Parker Lovitt; and one sister Kathleen Carlson of Tiburon, California; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Don and Les Ellingson; and sisters, June Marshall and Phyllis Hanson.

Funeral: Friday, June 24, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment:
 Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation:  
Thursday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
