Gladys Eklbad 1929- 2004

Gladys Ekblad, 74, Minot, died Monday, August 09, 2004, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.

Gladys Laurine Ekblad was born December 22, 1929 in Valley City, ND, the daughter of Amos and Emma (Nelson) Emery.

She was reared and educated in Valley City, graduating from the Valley City State Teachers College in 1951. She graduated from Minot State University in 1991.

On March 30, 1951, she married Arthur Ekblad in Valley City. Following her graduation and marriage, she started a teaching career in Regent ND. She then taught school in Berthold, as well as for the Minot Public School system. She always furthered her education, graduating with a Music Degree from Minot State University in 1991. Gladys worked for the North Central Human Service Center in Minot for a number of years.

Gladys was a member of the Vincent United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women and sang in the church choir for over 50 years. She also active with Minot Christian Women and she attended the Baptist XYZ. Gladys was an active radio amateur holding the call W0NGN for over 50 years. She was also a member of TOPS.

She is survived by her husband Arthur; daughter, Laurine (Grant) Kress, Santa Fe, NM; Son, Warren (Dana) Ekblad, Maple Valley WA; grandchildren, Heather Hilson, Amanda (Mike) Smitkin, Sean Ekblad, Medora Ekblad; brother, Neil H. Emery, Valley City ND; Sister, Nancy (Boyd) Peterson, Redmond WA, she is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in by her son, Eric, parents, brother, Clyde Emery and sisters, Edith Emery and Ruth Swartsley.

Funeral: Monday at 10:30 a.m., at Vincent United Methodist

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND

Visitation: Saturday and Sunday noon until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
