Violet "Vi" Eidsness 1925 - 2011

Violet "Vi" Eidsness PhotoViolet “Vi” Eidsness, 86, Minot died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in a Minot nursing home.

Violet Picken was born on March 25, 1925, a daughter of Edward and Anna (Thompson) Picken in Dunseith, ND. She was raised and educated in Minot, ND, where she graduated as valedictorian from Model High School. During World War II, Violet worked at the Naval Observatory in Washington DC, manufacturing optical lenses.

In 1949, Violet was united in marriage to Henry Geyer. To this union three children were born Diane,  Mike and Vicki. The couple later divorced. In 1961, Violet was united in marriage to Jack Bohan. To this union, son Mark was born. Jack died in 1963.

In July, 1971, Violet married Thomas Eidsness. The couple lived in Minot, and wintered in Peoria, AZ for six months out of each year. Thomas died December 1, 2001. Violet continued to live in Minot

Violet worked for GMAC insurance company and various Farmers Union Insurance Companies throughout the Minot area for several years. She worked for the Blaine Barsness Insurance company for a time, where he started the Motor Vehicle Department office in Minot. The Chamber of Commerce later obtained the MVD, and Violet managed this until her retirement in 1990.

Violet enjoyed traveling, camping, reading, playing bingo and following local sporting events, especially fast pitch softball. She especially enjoyed spending times with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Minot.

Violet is survived by:
                Children: Mike Geyer, Minot; Vicki (Brian) Reile, Minot; Mark (Jodi) Bohan, Laurel, MT; step-children: Alan (Lollie) Eidsness, St. Louis Park, MN, Paul Eidsness, Chanhassen, MN
 Eight grandchildren: Christina (Tim) Starks, Heidi (Ralph) Kay, Stephanie Hauser, Josh Reile, Michael Reile, Matthew Reile, Nathan Bohan and Brandon Bohan; seven great-grandchildren: Derwin, Davin, Jami, Macie, Emilee, Ashley and Samantha; special niece Jacki Case; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive in the Minneapolis and Portland areas.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Henry, Jack and Tom, daughter Diane Geyer, and Brothers Harvey, Charles “Chuck” and an infant brother.

Visitation:  Monday, May 2, 2011 from 1-6 at Thompson Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service:  Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 10 am at First Presbyterian Church, Minot

Burial:  Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
